  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
More Recipe:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined (it's okay if there are some lumps).
  4. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out the doughnuts using a doughnut cutter or a large round cookie cutter and a smaller cookie cutter for the center hole.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a large saucepan or Dutch oven to 350°F (180°C).
  6. Fry the doughnuts, a few at a time, until golden brown on both sides, about 2 minutes per side.
  7. Drain the doughnuts on a paper towel-lined plate.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar or glaze with your favorite glaze. Serve warm and enjoy!

Enjoy your freshly-made classic doughnuts!
